Sweden and the alcohol

The Swedish climate is not suitable for wine growing. At our latitude, we are better at producing corn, and for that reason, we have traditionally produced spirits instead. However, since we began spending our holidays abroad, wine consumption has steadily increased at the expense of spirits. Today Sweden is one of the world's largest importers of wine.

During the years 1917-1994, all production and selling of alcohol was taken over by the two state-owned companies Vin & Sprit AB and Systembolaget AB. In 1995, the import monopoly was abandoned, and instead of being run by one state-owned organisation for all countries, the import is now managed by a large number of new, creative and enthusiastic private importers.

Systembolaget still has a monopoly of selling wine and liquorLiquer and Wine in Sweden, but since the company is not allowed to import anything themselves, they must use private importers such as Partrade International AB.

Partrade International AB is one of the new big operators on the market. The company concentrates on high-quality, estate-bottled wines. The considerable trade and industry experience of Partrade's owner and employees has brought a well-needed new approach to this line of business.
