Systembolaget

Systembolaget AB is a state-owned company that has a monopoly of selling wine, beer and liquor in Sweden. Systembolaget has a nationwide network of more than 400 shops, where you can buy and order about 2000 different products from 38 producing countries. Since the company is not allowed to import any goods, it is restricted to using licensed importers such as Partrade International AB.

There are about 9 million people living in Sweden. Our total consumption of alcohol is approximately:

  • 30,000,000 litres of liquor
  • 105,000,000 litres of wine
  • 200,000,000 litres of beer

In order to keep the consumption of alcohol low, all products are heavily taxed. The average price for an ordinary wine is about 50-55 SEK, of which more than 70% are taxes and Systembolagets additional charge.

It may not be easy to reach the Swedish market, but once a product is on Systembolaget's regular/basic assortment, it is often sold for several years. Systembolaget offers different possibilities of qualifying a product for their shops:

  1. The regular range
  2. The temporary range
  3. The test range
  4. The special order range

If you want more detailed information about these assortments and/or other requirements for selling wine to the Swedish market, please contact Partrade International AB.
